Future-forward fabrics and thinking at Eurojersey
Eurojersey, the maker of patented high-tech Sensitive warp knit fabrics, exhibited at Milano Unica last week with a new collection targeting both fashion and sports applications. “Historically, Milano Unica is a men’s wear fabric trade fair, and we believe we have the products for tomorrow’s urban tech wear,” general manager Andrea Crespi told Sportstextiles. When consumer spending returns, he believes “they will not buy in the same way as today”. They may tire, he suggests, of low-quality fast and ultra-fast fashion clothing. Sensitive fabrics are manufactured in Italy and will keep their look and feel for longer, he pointed out.

Michela Delle Donne, marketing manager, said that the sportswear segment was growing at Eurojersey, citing cycling and running as strong markets for the company. Sensitive fabrics are also being adopted by golfwear brands in the likes of Honma (Hong Kong), Descente (Japan) and Fila (South Korea). Ms Della Donna pointed out the smart design details that these brands are introducing, including accordion pleats at the shoulders for ease of swing, bonded seams and engineered breathability through punched Sensitive fabrics.

Taking the long view, Eurojersey is currently investing in training the next generation of textile industry talents. Three things, basically, are needed to produce textiles, said Mr Crespi: raw materials, energy and skills. “We are investing in skills and in younger generations, with training programmes in dyeing, chemicals, knitting technologies, and so on.”
