High-performance knitters unite
Madrid-based private equity firm Alantra is slowly growing its textile portfolio around Spanish mill SPW Fabrics, aka Sportwear Argentona, which became a part of its portfolio in 2024. Late last year, it announced the creation of a new entity with Italian warp knitter Manifattura Italiana Tessuti Indemagliabili, better known as MITI, and based in Urgnano, near Bergamo.

The new entity combines SPW’s expertise in circular knitting with MITI’s in warp knitting across four manufacturing sites located in Italy, Spain and Hungary. It maintains all current employees which number in the 300 and combined revenues are expected to be around €50 million, 70% of which is exported on average.

Both founding families are involved in the industrial project, said Alantra Private Equity. This industrial project constitutes a second step in building a textile manufacturing hub that it intends to expand “through selective acquisitions and strategic partnerships across Europe”.
