New ‘All about Sustainability’ zone at Intertextile Shanghai
In line with the continued focus on eco solutions within the apparel fabrics industry, Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics will feature an ‘All about Sustainability’ zone for the first time at the next edition, which runs from October 21-24.
The overall theme in this zone will be ‘Recycle’ this year. Wendy Wen, senior general manager at Messe Frankfurt (HK), believes this will resonate strongly with domestic buyers.
“The issue of sustainability is becoming increasingly important for Chinese consumers as they become more conscious of environmental protection,” she says. “This zone, therefore, provides new opportunities for overseas companies that have strong environmental credentials to enter the Chinese market as this trend begins to take off.”
Participants will include outdoor clothing supplier Patagonia, which will present apparel featuring Repreve, and H&M, which will showcase its Conscious collection and Conscious Exclusive party wear line, which features garments made from organic cotton, recycled polyester and Tencel.
Hong Kong-based NGO Redress will demonstrate how it works to promote environmental sustainability in Asia’s fashion industry by reducing textile waste, pollution and water and energy consumption. It will showcase four outfits including zero waste, reconstructed, ‘upcycled’ and recycled textile outfits, respectively.
The Crystal Group will display its eco-friendly jeans production processes, including denim waste and usage laser and ozone bleaching.
