Intertextile’s Shanghai move leads to 60% rise in visitors
A move from Beijing to Shanghai has resulted in a 105% increase in overseas visitors and a 52% rise in Chinese visitors to spring’s Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics trade show.

Over 40,000 visitors passed through the doors from March 3 to 5, with the increase attributed to the fair’s proximity to textile factories as well as its position in the sourcing calendar, taking place slightly earlier in the season.

Zaki Ali, design director of Zaki Designs, Dubai, said: “You get to see a lot of innovative ideas here, because if the trends are emerging in Europe, then they’ve already started manufacturing them in China.”

Around 1,500 companies from 23 countries took part, with a 12% increase in international exhibitor participation.

Austrian fibre maker firm Lenzing also confirmed the positive sentiment. “There are more European and American textile brands with offices in Shanghai,” said Maggie Shen, marketing manager. “The visitor flow has been good and the quality of buyers is better here as well.”
