17/10/2013

Taiwanese producer of coffee-based fabric S-Café, Singtex Industrial, has officially launched its SPIIN initiative in Shanghai.

SPIIN provides a platform for partners to explore creativity and business opportunities, allowing them to work together to develop sustainable and eco-friendly products with S.Café yarn.

According to the company, more than 50 partners from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and the US have already joined the SPIIN alliance, including Huafu Top Dyed Melange Yarn and recycled fibre producer Repreve.

S.Café is a technical composite fibre used to make yarn, which can be knitted or woven through a series of manufacturing processes. The coffee grounds are said to absorb odours and to provide UV protection and fast drying capabilities.

The yarn won the Best Invention award at Geneva Inventions and the Pittsburgh Invention Gold Medal Award of Merit. It has obtained Global Recycle Standard certification from Control Union and Recycled Material Certification from TÜV.
