The fabric will be used in items including leggings for yoga. As well as the coffee grounds, which have sweat wicking and odour reducing properties, the leggings also use recycled plastic.
“Our core philosophy is to be an eco-friendly brand because we want to build the awareness of conserving the resources we use every day,” said Rumi X founder Melissa Chu, reflecting on the fact that the grounds used are waste from the coffee industry.
Singtex launched its first product derived from recycled coffee grounds in 2009 and has since incorporated the fabric in a wide range of its garments.
