Huntsman discusses environmental challenges in Shanghai
Textile dyes and chemicals manufacturer Huntsman Textile Effects presented an overview of current environmental issues facing the textile dyeing sector in Asia on October 22. The presentation took place during the annual Planet Textiles conference at the Kerry Hotel, within the Shanghai New International Expo Center.
The textile dyeing and finishing industry is one of heaviest global consumers of water and energy. In the wake of intense pressure from NGOs and regulatory bodies on the toxic chemical pollution caused by textile manufacturers, the industry has been under tremendous pressure to improve its environmental performance while straddling economic sustainability.
Presented by Steve Gray, global vice-president, strategic marketing and planning, the session highlighted key challenges facing the industry, particularly in tackling pollution and maintaining transparency throughout the manufacturing process.
The session focused on the significant role chemical companies and how Huntsman TE’s collaborative approach with various stakeholders has helped to pioneer change for a more sustainable textile industry.
The company has been working with industry partners and engaging brands and retailers to help the textile supply chain go green by tackling the industry’s biggest sustainability challenges: carbon emissions and the consumption and pollution of water.
Huntsman TE recently developed and launched a series of products to help businesses turn sustainability challenges into business advantages. This includes Phobotex, a range of fluorine-free hydro-polymers, which provide rain and stain management using short-chained C6 technology.
