Two witnesses said they had seen at least three bodies during the second day of chaos which saw protestors throwing stones and petrol bombs and which marred national strikes.
A military police spokesman said only one protester was killed. "We are sorry we heard one was killed and some were injured," he said. "But we were just following our duty, role and tasks. Now, we are securing the situation."
Unions have joined opposition supporters protesting against the government and demanding a re-run of an election in July which they say was rigged.
The opposition has promised to double the wages of 350,000 garment workers to $160 per month if elected.
