Brands meet Cambodian government to discuss labour issues
Buyers from apparel brands including Puma have held talks with government officials in Cambodia to discuss minimum wages and labour issues.

The meeting in Phnom Penh was the second round of talks between the parties, following a  meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministers of Labour and Commerce and other senior government officials in February.

Jyrki Raina, general secretary of union IndustriALL, said: “Despite assurances from the government in February, there have since been unprecedented levels of intimidation, violence, and a declining respect for the rule of law, which together constitute a grave attack on union and worker rights."

Unions and brands are concerned about the detention of 21 wage protestors, as well as the lack of progress in forming a minimum wage determination mechanism.

The industry comprises 960 factories with about 620,000 workers and generated $5.5 billion in revenue last year.
