Ispo product winners announced

22/01/2014
German sporting goods trade fair Ispo has published details of this year’s product awards prior to the Munich event at the end of January.

Overall, 48 experts travelled from three continents to Munich to select the winners out of 418 entries from 27 countries.

Tobias Gröber, head of consumer goods exhibitions at organiser Messe München, said: “The 2014/2015 season holds plenty of innovations. In terms of sustainability, companies exhibit an ever-increasing involvement. There is also a lot happening in regards to product weight.”

Product of the year in the action segment is Union Binding Company’s FC. The snowboard binding FC consists of forged carbon steel, a material innovation that is lighter than titanium. It allows the production of three-dimensional binding components offering optimal support and flex at the required locations wherever force is applied.

Product of the year in the outdoor segment and “perhaps the biggest surprise” is Oru Kayak. In November 2013 the start-up company was selected as the Ispo BrandNew overall winner, and now the product also impressed the jury. The bag weighs 11.8 kilos, and fits into almost any car’s trunk. In five minutes, the bag unfolds into the 3.6 metre-long Oru Kayak.

In the ski segment, Dahu Ski Boots were named the winner for their comfortable and functional construction.

The Google Glass-controlled treadmill Technogym won in the performance segment. Thanks to the new Unity Technology, an android-based display for cardiovascular training equipment, the treadmill is compatible with any app or peripheral devices. Every user can personalise the functions, including personal training program, data and entertainment.

The Asian product of the year is X’s Bikeman. Integrated LED arrows display the cyclists’ directional change which the rider signals with the help of the wireless transmitter.

Houdini Sportswear impressed the ECO Responsibility jury with a strong combination of design and function as well as a closed sustainable production chain.

The awards ceremony will take place on January 27 at 4pm in hall A6.
