ISPO selects recipients of 2018 Brandnew awards

06/12/2017
The organisers of sportswear trade fair ISPO have announced the winners of its Brandnew awards for 2018. They are awarded to start-up companies that have created innovative new products.

It received a total of 400 submissions for the latest edition of the awards, the 30th time they have been handed out. A jury consisting of former winners selected 50, all of which will be present at the Brandnew Village at the next edition of ISPO in Munich in January.

From that pool, seven winners from different categories and one overall winner have been chosen.

The overall winner was Austrian company My Esel, which has designed a customised bicycle made from wood. The company, which was founded in 2014, uses a web-based algorithm to determine a customer’s proportions, ideal seating position and ideal frame geometry in real-time.

The seven category winners were:

Hardware Summer - Fiftyten (Germany) for a universal travel cabin
Hardware Winter – Boardie (Sweden) for a new ski tow frame
Accessories – Tubolito (Austria) for a new lightweight bicycle tube
Fitness – Biorower (Austria) for a static rowing machine
Apparel – Templa (Belgium) for its outdoor performance apparel
Wearable – Microsfere (US) for a respiratory mask for use in areas with high levels of air pollution
Social Awareness – The Social Mercenary, a UK-based company selling apparel and accessories made by craftspeople in Ghana
