Cambodia’s troubled textile and garment industry has reported a 20% rise in exports for 2013, the ministry of commerce has said. The announcement comes at the end of a month of protests and strikes by garment workers, which have included fatal confrontations with the police.

Apparel exports to the US went up by 7.6% last year compared to 2012, reaching $2.1 billion, while shipments to Europe rose by 28% to reach $2 billion. These were the headline figures from a total of $5.5 billion.
