Patagonia chooses Gore-Tex Active for new jacket

Outdoor brand Patagonia has launched a new jacket for ice-climbers and other “high-output, done-in-a-day” mountain athletes.

Called the Leashless Jacket to reflect what Patagonia calls “the joys of untethered movement” on icefalls, the product is made in Vietnam using Gore-Tex Active.

This is a three-layer, 82 grammes-per-square-metre, 30-denier, 100% nylon material that WL Gore refers to as its most breathable waterproof fabric. Patagonia’s impression is that it delivers “excellent breathability, durable waterproofness and next-to-skin comfort for highly aerobic mountain endeavours”.

Details on the Leashless Jacket include coated, watertight zippers throughout, two hand-warmer pockets and a left chest pocket, pit zips for ventilation and a two-way adjustable, helmet-compatible hood with laminated visor. Hook-and-loop wrist closures and a drawcord hem help keep out weather.
