Bangladesh was the biggest beneficiary of the decline in apparel imports to the EU from China last year, according to the International Apparel Federation’s deputy secretary general Matthijs Crietee, who also said near-shoring and production moving to new countries such as Ethiopia will be new trends.

Speaking at Dialog’s Textil Bekleidung’s (DTB) and MODINT’s bi-annual sourcing convention in Düsseldorf, Germany, he added that we are in a new sourcing phase, the most striking element of which is the change of focus from moving production to improving production.

He said a revival of interest in factory floor and supply chain investments was a positive move, and only a collaborative effort involving buyers and manufacturers will improve the system performance of the apparel value chain.
