Seminar predicts 350% increase in bioplastics production by 2017

Global production of bio-plastics could expand from 1.4 million tonnes in 2012 to 6.2 million tonnes in 2007, an increase of almost 350%.

The figure was presented to delegates at the fifth International Seminar on Biopolymers and Sustainable Composites, which took place in Valencia at the start of March.

Bioplastics were defined at the event as those that are biodegradable and made from renewable raw materials.
