WRAP CEO joins the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety

07/04/2014

The CEO of Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP), Avedis Seferian, has been hired as an adviser to the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety.

Mr Seferian joins a group of 11 leaders in garment manufacturing, workers' rights and public policy who will guide the alliance's efforts to improve factory safety in Bangladesh.

Mr Seferian said: "The alliance has already done a lot of good work in Bangladesh, but we all know there's still plenty of ground left to be covered. We are at a pivotal moment in the history of the garment industry in Bangladesh, and in all my years working there, we have not had anything near the level of attention and resources being devoted to improving factory safety as we do today."

The alliance was founded in July 2013 by a group of North American apparel companies. They produced a binding, five-year undertaking that they say will be transparent, results-oriented, measurable and verifiable with the intent of improving safety in Bangladeshi ready-made garment factories. There are currently 26 participating companies along with supporting trade groups and organisations.

WRAP is an independent team of global social compliance experts dedicated to promoting safe, lawful, humane and ethical manufacturing around the world through certification and education. It is based in Virginia, US, with branch offices in Hong Kong and Bangladesh and additional representation in India and Southeast Asia.
