30/04/2014
Columbia Sportswear has announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire lifestyle apparel brand prAna for $190 million, subject to regulatory approval. It expects to complete the deal in the second quarter of 2014.

Chief executive, Tim Boyle, said he was pleased to add California-based prAna to Columbia’s brand portfolio, which already includes Columbia, Mountain Hardwear, Sorel and Montrail. He said prAna is “positioned at the intersection of today’s healthy, active lifestyles and socially conscious consumerism”. He paid tribute to prAna’s strategy of making sure its products, which include swimwear, trousers, shorts, sweat-tops and hoodies, are “manufactured with sustainability as a core value”.

Separately, Columbia Sportswear announced record first quarter sales of $424.1 million, up 22% on the same quarter last year.
