Kenya: Cotton industry needs government support

01/05/2014
Reports from Kenya say the African Cotton and Textile Industries Federation (ACTIF) has asked the government for extra funding to support the cotton industry, which it estimated could support another 500,000 jobs.

ACTIF’s chairman, Jaswinder Bedi, said Kenya’s cotton, textile and apparel industry has duty-free market access but it is not being made full use of.

"African countries like Kenya are currently drawing attention as a preferred sourcing destination due to the rise in labour costs in China and other key textile sourcing markets," he said.
