FDRA publishes code of conduct for global footwear manufacturers
15/07/2014
Andy Polk, FDRA’s vice-president, told sportstextiles.com that he introduced it to factories in Putian a few weeks ago and it “generated great interest”.
From working hours and overtime to structural safety and transparency, the guide that ensures any factories that adhere to its standards are compliant with industry expectations.
Greg Tunney, CEO of RG Barry Brands and chairman of FDRA, said: "This code will help all footwear companies, large and small, establish uniform standards for all of their suppliers, all around the world. This will help us create clear lines of communication and push compliance-troubled factories to conform or risk their business shutting down."
FDRA, which represents 100 companies and 200 brands, analysed dozens of company codes of conduct and worked with the Factory Enhancement and Sourcing Committee, a group of sourcing executives from distributors and retailers, and its social compliance working group to produce the guidelines.
Mike Jeppesen, president of global operations at Wolverine Worldwide and chairman of FDRA's Factory Enhancement and Sourcing Committee, said: "If suppliers to FDRA member companies work to adopt this important code, I am confident we will continue to enhance operations throughout the global footwear supply chain."
