TÜV SÜD and FDRA work together on new footwear product safety guide

Hot on the heels its Footwear Production Code of Conduct, the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) has teamed up with international testing and certification organisation TÜV SÜD to release what it says is the first ever global Footwear Product Safety Guide.

This new guide covers chemical and physical testing requirements and suggested protocols for footwear. Previous FDRA guidebooks of this kind only covered chemical testing.

Chairman of the trade association’s product safety enhancement committee, Josue Solano, said at the time of the guide’s launch that footwear brands are interpreting regulations differently, causing confusion at factory level and “hurting our ability to more effectively make products safer for our consumers”.
