Merino innovation on show in Shanghai

The global authority on merino wool, the Woolmark Company, took a series of innovations to Shanghai at the start of September to show off at the Spinexpo exhibition (September 2-4).

These innovations included Merino Air, Sculptured Merino and Vintage Merino Knits.

Merino Air involves a zero-twist yarn for bulk and softness, with good knitting and pilling performance, ideal for coarse-gauge knitwear.

Sculptured Merino can be used to create deliberate but randomly creased fabric because special finishing ensures uniform cockling.

Vintage Merino Knits have faded and wash-out effects, created by rapid uneven dyeing, which work best with ribs and cable structures.

“Innovations pave the way forward for the merino wool industry,” the Woolmark Company said in the build-up to the Shanghai event. It went on to say innovation allows the merino wool industry to be “a dynamic one that is forever changing”.
