Nike donates $300K to children’s projects
21/10/2014
Since its launch in 2010, the fund has provided 200 grants totalling over $2.5 million to organisations and schools in Oregon.
Kathy Webb, Nike community impact manager, said: “Nike wants to be an integral part of helping the next generation reach their full potential. We know that active kids do better - they score higher on tests, have better school attendance, exhibit better concentration and are more likely to go to college. For these reasons, we’re dedicated to getting children active through physical activity and access to sports programmes at the community level.”
This cycle’s recipients include Aspire, a project dedicated to bringing a quality dance programme to socio-economically at-risk youth; and the Beaverton Education Foundation, which helps female students in low-income schools.
A Nike employee advisory committee reviews applications and develops grant recommendations. Employees at the sportswear group’s headquarters volunteer their time to help the winning projects.
