DuPont celebrates cricket world cup

Chemical and materials company DuPont welcomed the start of the 2015 cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand on February 14 and said its innovations would be in use in a wide range of applications at the competition.

For example, its protective fibre Kevlar is in use in cricket bats, pads and gloves providing stiffness and shock-absorption properties without adding weight, while neoprene has a role to play in the grips on many of the players’ bats.

Nylon and Supplex are part of the material mix in a number of the shirts and trousers teams will wear at the event, while some cricket jerseys will have been treated with Teflon for water-, stain- and pill-resistance.

The competition will reach its conclusion at the final in Melbourne on March 29.
