Lenzing reports record sales volumes in 2014

Austrian fibre manufacturer Lenzing has released further details of its performance in 2014, pointing to strong demand and record sales volumes of 960,000 tonnes of its fibres to textile manufacturers in the course of last year. This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 8%.

However, the company pointed out that this record volume in sales came against a backdrop of lower prices and what it called “a very challenging market environment”.

As reported earlier in March, Lenzing’s revenues fell by 2.3% to €1.8 billion, compared to more than €1.9 billion in 2013.

In spite of this, earnings for the year were up by 24% to €240.3 million. Lenzing said a business improvement programme called Excellenz had allowed it to establish a leaner overall organisational structure, leading to the increase in profitability from its operations.
