The North Face deal propels Unifi expansion

Yarn manufacturer Unifi is increasing polyester texturing capacity in its US and Central American facilities to support growing demand, partly driven by its partnership with The North Face.

In January it announced the outdoor brand’s increasing use of its Takeback and Repreve yarns for its Denali jackets saves 30 million plastic bottles from landfill per year, as highlighted in the latest edition of WSA.

Synthetic apparel production in the North American and Canadian Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA and CAFTA) regions has grown 5% annually over the past five years.

"We are very encouraged by the continued growth of synthetics in the US and Central America, and the opportunities it presents for the textile industry," said Roger Berrier, chief operating officer of Unifi. "We work closely with our customers to understand their production needs, and we are committed to investing in this region to provide the increasing amounts of synthetic yarn and other innovative products they require.

"This expansion is one of the key projects that we identified to help drive profitable growth for the company, and is a planned part of our increased capital spending for this fiscal year."
