NFL team picks Unifi’s Repreve as sustainability partner

US National Football League (NFL) team the Detroit Lions have appointed Unifi’s Repreve recycled fibre brand as their official sustainability partner.

Yarn manufacturer Unifi transforms plastic bottles into Repreve fibres that are used brands including Ford, Haggar, Polartec, Quiksilver and Volcom.

Players will wear Repreve jerseys, each made from 21 recycled plastic bottles, as part of a wider campaign to encourage fans to recycle.

Detroit Lions Team President Tom Lewand said: “This collaboration will also serve as a platform to educate fans about the quality products that can be made from recycled materials, which will help keep plastic bottles from ending up in landfills."
