Obama visits Nike headquarters to campaign on TPP trade deal

US President Barack Obama was at the group’s headquarters in Oregon to deliver a speech on the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and the TPP. Nike says the footwear tariff relief would allow it to create 10,000 domestic jobs over the next decade.
Opposers to the TPP questioned the location for the speech, saying Nike has been accused of moving jobs to Asia, where 90% of its workforce is based.
Mr Parker said: “We believe agreements that encourage free and fair trade allow Nike to do what we do best: innovate, expand our businesses and drive economic growth. Nike has always led the way in product innovation, and now we will be able to accelerate our investments to continue to drive manufacturing innovation.”
Organisations such as the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America say trade deals will help to promote growth in US-headquartered companies and lower prices for consumers.
