Columbia puts OutDry into clothing for the first time

Outdoor brand Columbia is putting its OutDry waterproof, breathable membrane technology into apparel for the first time.

The brand has produced its first waterproof jackets and pants using the OutDry Extreme product. The garments have a waterproof layer on the outside and a wicking fabric on the inside. They also have a high level of breathability for comfort.

Material on the outside also has waterproof seam taping and a high level of abrasion resistance.

This combination of features offers outdoor enthusiasts a series of improvements on standard waterproof clothing, Columbia said on announcing the development. Standard solutions wet out over time, it said, and have membranes on the inside that can create a clammy, hot feeling for the wearer and restrict breathability.
