Italian fabric producer Tessitura Taiana Virgilio has successfully completed a joint project with Dutch fibre manfuacturer DSM Dyneema to bring to the cycling market shorts that offer better protection without compromising on comfort, lightness, moisture management and aerodynamics.

New shorts made from Kinetech Guard fabric were ready in time for the start of the 2015 Tour de France, with the Giant Alpecin team electing to wear the new product.

According to Tessitura Taiana Virgilio, Kinetech Guard offers high abrasion- and tear-resistance thanks to the properties of the Dyneema fibre it uses. It also offers four-way stretch for comfort, a weight of 160 grammes per square-metre, a thickness of less than 40 microns, compression for muscle support and a soft, comfortable hand-feel.

Tessitura Taiana Virgilio’s marketing manager, Marco Taiana, has told sportstextiles that the new shorts were in development and testing for months.
