Sports brand ASICS, which now has two stores in Mumbai, has said it will open own-brand retail operations in three other Indian cities, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, before the end of this year.

In comments to local media, the director of the company’s business in India, Rajat Khurana, said ASICS intends to add a further 10 stores at least in the course of 2016 and, after establishing a presence in the 10 or 12 biggest cities in India, he said the company will address tier-two markets too.

Initially, ASICS stores in India will open based on a franchise system, but the brand has said company-owned stores will open in the future. Mr Khurana said the company was already sourcing branded apparel in India and would seek to source Indian-made athletic shoes in future too.
