Decathlon launches in South Africa with Soweto pop-up

24/05/2016
Sporting goods manufacturing and retail group Decathlon has begun a new pop-up store in Soweto, South Africa.

The new facility is large, covering an area of 500 square-metres in the Maponya retail park. It will stock products for football, rugby, hiking, cycling, swimming and fitness. However, Decathlon has started with a pop-up rather than a permanent store because, it has said, it wants to learn hand in hand with people in Soweto, what the needs of local sports enthusiasts are.

Project leader, Arnaud Gauquelin, has said Decathlon will use the information it gains from the pop-up project to open its first permanent retail store in South Africa by the end of this year.
