Leicester City “fairytale” good news for Puma

27/05/2016
Puma chief executive, Björn Gulden, has said that Leicester City’s unlikely triumph in the English Premier League this season has led to a huge increase in demand for the club’s shirts, which his company supplies.

In a recent interview with media in Germany, Mr Gulden said demand for Leicester replica kit has multiplied by 15 since the club clinched the title at the start of May.

Mr Gulden said he would rather focus on this “fairytale” than try to compete with rival brands such as adidas, Nike and Under Armour for glamorous, big-name contracts. In the past month, Nike has signed multi-million-dollar deals with Barcelona and Chelsea, while adidas has concluded a new deal with Bayern Munich and is reported to be preparing to add substantially to the amount it currently pays Real Madrid.

The Puma chief executive said he thinks the price of these “packages” has gone too high.
