Zimbabwe traders have South Africa in their sights

Zimbabwe trade development and export promotion organisation ZimTrade has led a delegation of the country’s clothing, textiles and leather companies to a trade exhibition in Cape Town, South Africa.

The event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre was targeted primarily at companies from Africa and brought together suppliers, buyers and manufacturers from within the industry.

ZimTrade director of operations Allan Majuru, who headed the delegation, emphasised the importance if Zimbabwe participating in the conference in order to make known its presence on the global market.

He said that the country’s apparel sector was “lagging behind” because of the constraints faced by the sector in the early years of the century. He added that Zimbabwe’s presence was a way to show that it “still a potential source of good quality clothing, textiles and leather products”.

Representatives from the Zimbabwe Clothing Manufacturers Association (ZCMA) and the Zimbabwe Textiles Manufacturers Association (ZITMA) were among those who made the trop to Cape Town.
