FESI updates agreement to tackle online sale of fake goods

23/06/2016
The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) signed a new memorandum of understanding on June 21 with the European Commission to stop online sales of counterfeit sports goods. A number of intellectual property rights holders and some online shopping site operators also took part.

This development updates a previous agreement that dates back to 2011.

“There is no doubt that the development of e-commerce offers unprecedented opportunities to increase European consumers’ choice and access to the market,” FESI said. “However, even if the  majority of e-commerce that takes place on internet platforms is legitimate, they can also be abused by those who seek to distribute counterfeit goods.”
