Dow Elastomers wants to help Under Armour “drive advances” in footwear
Material science company Dow Elastomers has said its work with Under Armour as part of the Lighthouse centre for manufacturing and design innovation will help it to “drive advances in footwear performance”.

Dow said its work as a Lighthouse partner will help it “accelerate innovation in product and process technology to regionalise and automate athletic footwear manufacturing”. It sees its role in this as providing scientific expertise, research and development capabilities and “premium solutions”.

An example of the solutions Dow wants to offer is its Infuse olefin block copolymer foam technology for use in the midsole of athletic shoes to improve rebound, compression set, comfort and dimensional stability.

“By working closely with Under Armour, this partnership will allow the production of high-performance footwear in a way that is more effective and efficient,” said Greg Jozwiak, business president of Dow Elastomers. “We’re committed to cutting-edge materials science solutions that will help Under Armour and their athletes push the limits.”

The Under Armour Lighthouse centre opened in Baltimore on June 28.
