Vietnam takes over as top exporter of cotton yarn to China

Vietnam has taken over from India as the most important overseas supplier of cotton yarn to China.

In the first seven months of 2016, exports of cotton yarn from Vietnam to China increased by 7%, reaching more than 330,000 tonnes and a value of more than $850 million.

Shipments over the same period from India went down by 42%, reaching 263,000 tonnes and a value of $635 million. Pakistan was the third-largest overseas supplier of cotton yarn, with a volume shipped of 220,000 tonnes and a value of $482 million, 41% down on the same months in 2015.
