Re:newcell secures funding for circular garment facility

Re:newcell, a Swedish company which has developed a technology that allows cotton waste to be recycled into new textile pulp, has secured $5 million investment to establish its first production line.

The funding comes from Swedish government-owned investment company, Fouriertransform, and private investor Girincubator.

Re:newcell will now be able to begin construction of a facility in Kristinehamn, Sweden, to roll out the technology, which it hopes will contribute to a reduction in the amount of waste generated by the textile industry. 

“The goal with Re:newcell is to be part of creating a modern textile industry with resource- efficient processes and materials,” said co-founder Malcom Norlin. “It is with great pleasure that we take the next step in its development, with a first production line and a very strong ownership.”

“The technology represents a potentially important future circular solution to responsibly manage the challenge to meet the growing world demand for cotton textiles, which is a limited resource for the fashion and textile industry,” said Per Aniansson, investment director at Fouriertransform.
