Marmot stays put as Newell looks to sell winter sports brands

06/10/2016
Consumer product group Newell Brands has announced it will seek to sell the winter sports brands in its outdoor solutions segment. Brands affected include ski brands Völkl and K2. Contrary to some initial reports, outdoor clothing brand Marmot has confirmed to sportstextiles.com that it is not for sale and will remain part of Newell Brands.

The New Jersey-based group acquired its sports and outdoor brands, which also include baseball brand Rawlings, when it completed its purchase of the Jarden group in April 2016.

On October 4, Newell said it wanted to put in place “a sharpened set of portfolio choices”, focusing on writing, baby goods, food preparation, and cookware, but also on outdoor and recreation.

The company will simplify its operating structures consolidating the existing 32 business units to 16 operating divisions, one of which will be outdoor and recreation.
