Asics to continue global expansion despite sales downturn

04/11/2016
Athletic footwear and apparel brand Asics has reported sales revenues of just over $3 billion for the first nine months of 2016. This corresponds to a decline of 7.2% year on year. Its income from this total was just over $280 million, down by 10.8% compared to the figure for the corresponding period in 2015.

Asics said business was steady in the sporting goods industry in the third quarter of 2016 and it attributed this to a  high  level  of  interest  in  sports  “owing  to  rising  health  consciousness”.

It said this health-driven popularity of sport was encouraging it to continue with global expansion plans.

Highlights it pointed to included the launch of its DynaFlyte running shoes, which are equipped  with a new midsole material called FlyteFoam, which Asics has described as its lightest-ever cushioning material.
