Asics replaces adidas as sponsor of IAAF

06/12/2016
Athletic footwear and apparel brand Asics has signed a multiple-year deal to become an official partner of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which governs global track and field events.

Asics will provide footwear and apparel for officials and volunteers at all IAAF World Athletics Series events, including the 2017 World Championships in London and the 2019 World Championships in 2019.

“I am so happy to have the honour of supporting the IAAF as an Official Partner,” said Motoi Oyama, president and CEO of Asics. “We at ASICS hope to both develop excellent products and contribute to the growth of the sporting world as a whole by supporting athletics around the globe.”

“We are delighted to have attracted Asics, a world-class sportswear designer and manufacturer, as our latest Official IAAF Partner to share this new journey with us”, added IAAF President Sebastian Coe. “We are excited to be joined by a partner whose vision shares our strategy for a youthful, innovative sport that promotes fair competition and healthy living.”

Earlier in December, German sportswear manufacturer adidas announced it was ending its sponsorship deal with the IIAF. It was supposed to run until 2019. Although unconfirmed by adidas, it has been reported that the decision was in response to the doping scandal that is sweeping athletics.
