Asics invests in conductive textile developer
07/02/2018
AI Silk was founded in 2015 in Japan’s Miyagi prefecture. It has worked to create conductive textiles that are comfortable on the skin, allowing devices that gather the body’s data from the skin to be worn for extended periods without causing irritation to the wearer.
It has developed a proprietary silk textile conductive technology, which offers high conductivity, but is also gentle to the skin and highly absorbent. This has been achieved in collaboration with researchers at Tohoku University.
Asics will apply AI Silk’s technology at its Institute of Sport Science, where it develops sports apparel made from high-performance materials.
Asics Ventures was established in November 2016 to pursue innovations at a faster pace. Asics plans to pursue sustainable growth by working closely with the companies in which its subsidiary invests and by developing new businesses.
