Approval for Asics’ CO2 emissions reduction target

22/08/2018
Sports brand Asics has announced that its target to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2030, which it set earlier this year, has been officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

SBTi has established in 2015. The initiative champions science-based target setting as a way of promoting a low-carbon economy. Targets adopted by companies are considered “science based” if they are in line with the level of decarbonisation required to keep global temperature increase below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial temperatures.

Asics’ CO2 emissions reduction target includes reducing its scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 33% by 2030, compared to the base-year 2015. It also aims to reduce its scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 55% per product manufactured.

The company said: “Asics will continue to focus on even more sustainable business operations by developing more environmentally sustainable products and encouraging efficient energy usage and renewable energy in order to achieve the approved targets.”
