Freudenberg has begun using polyurethane foam materials in medical applications. The company has described a new methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI)-based polyurethane foam with antimicrobial functionality as “a milestone in terms of rapid absorption and retention in wound dressings”.
It said the antimicrobial effect contributes to reducing the bacterial load in infected wounds and acts as a barrier in wounds with high risk of infection.
