Taiwanese textile manufacturer to build US plant

Taiwan-based textile manufacturer Everest Textile has unveiled plans to establish a manufacturing facility in the US.

The company will invest $18.5 million over five years to build the site in Rutherford County, North Carolina. It will create 610 jobs, including machine operators, supervisors and administrative personnel.

Everest has its headquarters in Tainan City, Taiwan and supplies fabric to a range of apparel companies such as Nike, Adidas, The North Face, Columbia and Patagonia. It already operates factories in Taiwan, China and Thailand; this would be its first plant outside of Asia.

At the start of November, Taiwanese fabric producer Kingwhale confirmed that it, too, will run a production facility in North Carolina, joining forces with local manufacturer Hornwood to  has joined forces with Hornwood to acquire a production facility in Anson County.
