Four of Taiwan’s leading textile manufacturers presented their latest developments at a special event at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, US (July 26-29).

The event was organised by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and featured Far Eastern New Century (FENC), QMI, Singtex and Tex-Ray.

FENC presented two new products. It describes TopDry Zero as a PFC-free DWR polyester filament that offers “permanent and superior” DWR performance. It also unveiled TopClean, a PFC-free polyester filament that allows for easy soil and stain removal.

QMI unveiled its Aqua Terra fabric and Roam Anywear Hood, the latest developments from its VAST Tech programme. They are designed to have multiple functions as well as to use minimal production resources. Aqua Terra is a fabric for versatile garments, while the Roam Anywear Hood can be inflated to create a pillow.

Singtex unveiled the latest innovations from its S.Café coffee-based product range. The Airmem membrane features 25% of material made using spent coffee grounds. The Airnest bio-foam also has 25% coffee-based content; Singtex said it can be used in a wide range of end-markets. Singtex also presented P4DRY, a fabric printing technology that uses repurposed coffee grounds.

Tex-Ray unveiled a new programme for improving its environmental footprint by reducing the water usage and CO2 emissions from its raw material production. This will include the use of its ECO-lor dyeing technology, which uses less water than conventional dyeing processes.
