TTF forecasts strong year for Taiwanese textiles

Taiwan exported textile products worth $7.55 billion during the first nine months of 2017, a 1.5% increase compared to the same period of last year, according to the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF).

Speaking at a press conference at the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (Titas), the secretary general of TTF, Justin Huang, said this momentum is expected to continue in the fourth quarter of the year amid growing confidence in the country’s textile industry. TTF expects total textile exports for 2017 to be 5% higher than last year.

“Taiwanese textile suppliers will also benefit from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics over the coming years, as local companies are strong producers of functional wear and high-performance sportswear for athletes,” Mr Huang added.

Titas drew to a close on October 18 after a three-day event at the Taipei Nangang exhibition centre. It brought together nearly 400 exhibitors, most of which are based in Taiwan. More than 100 international brands sent buyers to the event.
