TTF calls for investment in smart textiles
19/10/2016
The TTF says Taiwanese-made functional fabrics have a 70% share of the global market. It feels smart textiles must become the next focus for manufacturers. Far Eastern New Century (FENC), with its DynaFeed garment biosensor technology, is one of the companies using Titas 2016 as a platform to showcase their smart textile innovations.
Manufacturers should look to developed products for wearable devices and for medical use, according to the TTF. It also called for the building of a complete smartwear supply chain in Taiwan. A report from the organisation projects that the market for smart clothing could reach $2.9 billion by 2020.
The report showed that Taiwan’s textile exports fell 10% to $6.6. billion during the first eight months of 2016. There was also a 10% drop in fabric exports from the country, which reached $4.5 billion.
During the current edition of Titas, the TTF is organising more than 1,000 meetings between local manufacturers and potential buyers. There are representatives from more than 100 international brands at the event. They come from 21 different countries and include Michael Kors, Under Armour, Polygiene and Archroma.
