Two Taiwanese companies presented fabrics featuring Merino wool blended with other materials to add performance qualities such as durability at the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (Titas), which runs from October 17 to 19.

Evertex Fabrinology brought a variety of innovative fabrics to the event, including its Janerino Merino Wool, which is blended in different quantities with polyester to give a variety of performance characteristics. It is targeting this fabric at the outdoor market. Sue Shih, a senior sales representative at the company, said performance wool is “the next big thing”. The company only began producing merino wool blends in the past two years and is steadily building its selection.

Another company, Chia Her, brought its selection of performance merino wool. This includes a fabric made by blending Merino wool with nylon from Cordura, which offers high abrasion resistance and is suitable for use in outdoor sports. It also presented a blend of wool with Lenzing’s plant-based Tencel fibre, which it says is ideal for use in spring and summer due to its wicking and cooling properties.
