Titas 20th anniversary edition opens
The 2016 edition of the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (Titas) has been officially opened by the President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-Wen. It runs from October 17 to 19.

Ms Tsai cut the ribbon at the opening press conference to celebrate the event’s 20th anniversary. It has been held every year since 1997 and this year will see a record 800 exhibitor booths.

The Taiwan Textile Federation, which co-organises the event with the Taiwan Bureau of Foreign Trade, says there are 376 exhibitors present this year from nine countries, including China, Germany, South Korea and the US, as well as the host nation. It believes this mix “presents very promising business opportunities for all participants”.

In the wake of the first global agreement on climate change, the Paris agreement, which will come into force on November 4, sustainable textiles are again a crucial part of the event. Textile companies from Taiwan have already spent heavily on developing eco-friendly materials and Titas allows them the opportunity to display their progress to a wide range of international visitors.

The growing market of smart textiles also features heavily as companies present products designed for various sectors including sports, medical and healthcare, and security.

As well as the exhibitor booths, Titas 2016 will see a total of 15 presentations on a range of topics. These include the latest trends, green and non-toxic textiles, and innovative research and development.
