Huntsman Textile Effects has announced a new partnership with Bangladesh-based spinner and knit and spun fabrics producer Viyellatex Group. Huntsman has been a supplier to Viyellatex for 16 years.

Under the agreement, Huntsman will support Viyellatex’s mills to streamline operations, train technical staff and make recommendations to help improve yield and productivity to help Viyellatex meet the requirements of international clothing brands.

Viyellatex chairman, David Hasanat, said on announcing the development: “Support from Huntsman will help us be more competitive in this fast growing market. It will help us to comply with the stringent product, operational and environmental demands of our global customers.”

For its part, Huntsman confirmed the importance of the Bangladeshi market to its business. It quoted figures indicating a value of the ready-made garment sector in Bangladesh of more than $28 billion in financial year 2015-2016 and a share of more than 80% of total exports. It also said the Asian country has 4,300 garment factories employing a total of around 4 million people.
